Odd John's view on society as a whole, of his contemptuous affection for his biographer, "Fido", his search to find others of his own kind--so much of our view of "mutants" today have been colored by X-Men and the like. But Xavier's students were human in attitude with just one additional ability. Odd John reacted as we would if stuck on an island of apes. He was a bit of a precocious brat, but his story still was the first to use the phrase homo superior, and certainly among the best stories of the next step beyond Man in evolution.

I call MM "neohuman" sometimes, beyond any human mind. And this book, more than any other, gave me insights on how to treat a more-than-human mind.

Different origin, different appearance, different attitudes: but Odd John and MM would have been delighted to find an equal mind to challenge the other. Another strongly recommended book, as almost all of Stapledon's are. SIRIUS is about a dog with human intellect. And STAR MAKER...there has been no book with a bigger vision. Ever.

FEATURED LINK : Two comics have resumed updating, and I wouldn't be happier. DASIEN ---MM's "favorite" blonde pest/bombshell, who she met in CROSSOVERLORD, has started updating again. So has BAD GUY HIGH ADVENTURES, where SuperDan confronts the Crossoverlord Crew, including Mindmistress, in a side-story that took place during the main run of CROSSOVERLORD.
